Home from home

Situated on the stunning Trotternish peninsula of Skye, we have two self-catering cottages to rent, 40m apart on the same private, 2 acre site; The Old Croft House and The Byre.  Both cottages provide high quality accommodation that each sleep four in two en-suite bedrooms (1 king, 1 twin), and each has attained the highest grading, 5 stars, from VisitScotland, Scotland’s national tourist board. Each property is a warm and welcoming ‘home from home’ in a lovely, quiet and peaceful location, off the beaten track, with panoramic views across the bay and beyond.  Sit back and relax in comfort and watch spectacular sunsets unfold or the ships that go by.  It’s a great base for visiting many places of interest, as the Trotternish is rich in history and renowned for its wild landscapes of beauty and wildlife.  There are dark skies too, making it an amazing place for stargazing; on clear nights you may see the Milky Way and the magical Northern Lights.

The Old Croft House cottage is pictured above.  It has been fully refurbished, is cosy and equipped to a very high standard for your comfort.  Both en-suites have a WC, basin and digital power shower.  An infra-red sauna for two and deep double bath with sea view (see above) adds luxury in the master en-suite.  There are two lounges, each with a wood burning stove.  The traditional lounge has a 42″ smart TV, books, maps and games.  The modern lounge in the new extension has spectacular views to land and sea as well as a Naim Mu-so music streamer with internet radio; many guests simply sit on the reclining leather settees or chaise longue, relax and enjoy the view.   Find out more here

The Byre, pictured below, was completed in summer 2019.  It is 40 metres from The Old Croft House and finished and furnished to the same high standard, with reclining settee and chairs, large smart TV, wood burner and underfloor heating, panoramic sea view, wet room, bath etc. It now has a fast, smart electric vehicle charger; electricity is charged at cost rate plus a £10 admin charge.  To have a closer look, click here

Nearby

There are lovely walks from here too, along unspoilt coastline, to the famous Rubha Hunish bothy, and along the Skye Trail.  Wildlife is still plentiful here; hares, Golden and Sea Eagles, Sparrowhawk and Hobby may be seen from cottage, otters in the bay, with whales, basking sharks, dolphins and seals in the sea around us.

Our beautiful part of Skye, the Trotternish peninsula has a lot to offer visitors. There are many ‘must see’ sites close by, most within 15 minutes and all within 30 mins drive including: the spectacular Quirang and the Trotternish ridge, the Old Man of Storr, the Museum of Island Life, the resting place of Flora MacDonald (of Bonnie Prince Charlie fame), the ruins of Duntulm Castle (ancient seat of Clan MacDonald), dinosaur footprints, a lovely beach at Staffin, and the ferry to the Outer Hebrides from Uig. See photos of some of these here.

Excellent cafes and restaurants are a short drive away.  Portree, the main town on the island is 45 minutes drive away, but expect to stop a lot to take in the views, as it is a spectacular drive.  There you can buy Scottish fare of fresh fish, meat etc. as well as going to the cinema and live events.

Wildlife tours, a trip to the Outer Hebrides or even St. Kilda or the Cuillin mountains can all be done from here.  There’s coasteering, e-biking, mountain walks and other Skye adventures for the more energetic.  Or simply kick back, switch off and enjoy the view.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, and they can bring their well behaved parents.

Sorry, no children under 12 unless by prior agreement and no smoking in either property.

We welcome people from all around the World.

Short term let licence application number FS546236696; this covers both of our cottages.

Maximum occupancy of each cottage is 4 persons.
